With City’s new found wealth I cannot see them sticking with Mark Hughes next term. Hughes was the appointment of the previous regime and so what always happens in cases like this the owners will want their own man. In defence of Hughes he has been a reasonably successful manager in his time but he is not up there with the elite corps of Internationally known managers and can he attract the world stars the new owners will want?? If you are investing millions you will want the best to come to City and the best will be attracted by the best managers ( plus money of course).
Which brings me around to Mourinhio. Wouldn’t he just love to beat Chelsea at their own game? Wouldn’t he want to be top dog in the Premiership again and wouldn’t he just love to come back to the English game( yes…he has just said so).
So a natural fit at the end of this season…Hughes will go …Mourinhio will be enticed to leave Inter and join the Blue revolution. Just watch this space.
There is just one little problem which can scupper my theory…what happens if SAF decides to end it all next May just across the city and Man United??? What will he do then??
I can see plenty of mileage in the Mourinho for City idea. I can’t see Hughes lasting much longer than the end of next season. The new owners are not gonna hang around for too long whilst their playtoy are being beaten away at Middlesbrough and such places. Just take a look at QPR and Ian Dowie.
They will no doubt look at someone like Mourinho and this would be very interesting given that he has said he will definitely come back to the Premier League.
He might see it as a stepping stone to the top job down the road??
There is no way Mourinho will go to city, well not in the short term anyway. We can see by Mourinho’s history that he will be at Inter for at least 3 years, by then Man city will have to be established in the top 4 and have a real chance of landing him. I don’t think that will happen and I don’t think Mourinho needs to go to a team who are not as established. Reports have linked him with the Man Utd job; I think it will have to be an established manager from outside the club not after Quiroz turning his back on Utd for the second time.
Defeats against Bolton and Tottenham and they make Hughes fly out to Dubai after the big wigs were there on Sunday - surely Hughes would have been off staying in Manchester and sorting out his side which is pretty poor now after a bright start to the season. Talk of buying Santa Cruz for 35 Million surely there is a beeter strike around at the moment Cruz has started the season poorly.
