Are players respecting the ref?....

With two weeks of the new Premier League season completed, Statbunker looks at how the 'Respect' campaign has been working, if at all:

So far this season there have been 44 yellow cards in the Premier League in 19 matches played.  This is some 16 fewer than the same time last season when two fewer games had also been played.

Mark Noble's red card on Sunday was the first of the season to any PL side. At the same time last season there had been four red cards shown in those 17 matches - a ratio of almost one in four.

Out of the 44 yellow cards dished out, only four have been for dissent.  This is half the amount for the same offence, this time last year.

So it would appear at first glance that the 'respect' campaign has had a postive effect, time will tell if this is for real or just a temporary blip....
